What To Expect From Your First Therapy Session:

Psychotherapy is a talking therapy; this means that a typical session will consist of dialogue between you and your therapist.

Once you've been in contact and decide you'd like to try talking therapy, I'll invite you for an assessment session. The assessment session will last for 50 minutes. This session is a chance for us to get to know each other and for me to hear about you, and what brings you to seek therapy. Please use this session to gain a sense of my way of working and how you feel about being in the room and in conversation with me. Finding the right therapist is a personal and important choice and you should feel comfortable and safe with the therapist you see.

In this session I'll explain a little about how I work and the practicalities around our sessions such as confidentiality and time keeping. You will be welcome to ask any questions regarding your therapy with me.

In the assessment we'll discuss how many sessions you want. This can be a set time span, set number, or open ended. This decision will be made together and will be informed by many different factors.

It is important to remember, that  it may take a few early sessions to complete a full assessment of your therapeutic needs and whether I am best suited to support you.  It may be appropriate to consider a referral or signposting to other professionals and agencies and I can help provide information and support if that is the case.
